I've tried several expandable backpacks and this is definitely the best. Excellent quality and great features. The shoulder straps are quick and easy to stow, the capacity is great, and the expandability is an awesome feature. The style is nice and the dark camo looks good.\n\nThe front pocket seems a bit weird at first but I like that is has enough depth where you can just throw some quick access items in it. It's so annoying when pockets are flat and tight; it makes you not want to use them.\n\nOne thing I was surprised by was the compression straps and the adjustment of the shoulder straps. The compression straps need to be at full length when the backpack is not expanded...so that doesn't leave much slack for attaching things like a jacket or tripod, especially if the pack is expanded. Not sure why these are so short but that's a bummer. Also, the shoulder strap adjustment has these weird loops at the bottom (I'm assuming to keep from dangling?) but it doesn't look good and traditional strap management would have been better.\n\nAnother small annoyance is the laptop sleeve has a thick buckle that adds unnecessary thickness to that whole compartment. The buckle is thicker than my laptop. The buckle should be higher on the flap, above the laptop, so the compartment would be thinner.

I've purchased both the Forge-Multicam and the Forge-20. Both are extremely well designed, built with durable materials, and constructed with precision and care. The camo print in the multicam version adds a wonderful aesthetic that will certainly turn heads. I highly recommend the Forge if you are looking for a high quality EDC that also does the job on short trips due to the expandable storage and tech compartments. Everything has a home and stays in its place! It's also been a pleasure working with the Black Ember team. They put their customers first and strive to ensure that the purchasing experience is easy and timely. Well done Black Ember!
